I have a busy week ahead. I'm over hauling my iPod Touch and iPhone Portal over at http://myijump.com When I launched it, I simply took an RSS feed from apple.com, which automatically updated the listings for the various categories of iPhone web apps and iPod Touch webapps. One of the features I was keen to implement on the portal was offer geographical relevance by indicating which webapps were designed for USA and UK iPhone and iPod Touch users. Something that taking the feeds from Apple, simply doesn't allow me to do. Another major downside of using the Apple feed was that the developers of all these webapps had no idea that I was sending them visitors. The problem with using a 3rd party feed is that the listings on myijump.com would send the users to a page on apple.com, and they would then continue on to the webapp from there. No idea whatsoever that it was myijump.com that started the ball rolling. So what I needed to do was create my own listings on the portal. I could of course just add them directly to the page, but I really wanted to use an RSS feed. They're so flexible, and they allow me to syndicate my listings across other sites. The quickest and easy way to do this was to launch a new blog and add all of the webapps via that. Then I could just syndicate the RSS feed from that blog to myijump. Shweeet! It's a ton of work to play catch up on the webapps that have already been launched, and meet my miniumum quality requirements. There are some really shit webapps out there for the iPhone and iPod Touch. So yesterday I launched a new blog at www.doipod.com/webapps/, for the love of all things holy, don't bother visiting it. It's looks aweful. I just need it for the RSS feed. Oh okay, take a gander. Check out http://www.doipod.com/webapps/iphone_latest_usa/ and see how that turns out on myijump.com at http://myijump.com/iportal/iphone_latest_usa/ Clever stuff, huh? Well I'm off to trawl through the submissons. Thanks for your time.
